Welcome to the mishmash.

I’m Hilary. Midlife woman. Farm girl (again). Jesus follower. Recovering perfectionist.

I write for women who are walking with Jesus in the real world—the messy, beautiful, complicated middle of it all.

A Few Things
About Me

I follow Jesus—though I’ve grown wary of labels. What matters to me is the daily walk: imperfect, surrendered, and grounded in Biblical truth.

I believe in showing up for people. Around a table. In hard conversations. In quiet moments when someone just needs to know they’re not alone. If I had to name it, I’d say I’m a hostess to the broken. (Which, if we’re honest, we’re all broken, aren’t we?)

I live on the farm where I grew up in northwest Iowa—something I never saw coming, but now can’t imagine any other way. I love planting seeds. In the soil, and in people.

I’m in recovery from alcoholism. It’s part of my story, but it’s not the headline. What it’s given me is perspective, honesty, and a deep appreciation for grace—both receiving it and offering it.

Around Here

Around here, you’ll find reflections on faith, midlife, books I’m reading, food I’m making, what I’m planting and what I’m learning as I go, about God, His creation and His strange and wonderful creatures, including us oddball humans.

We’re all a little undone.

A little searching. A little hopeful. You’re in good company here.
